Black Branch Trail – Dahlonega, GA.

This hike occurred on November 27, 2024. It was the day before my 58th birthday. The Black Branch Trail is rated as easy on Alltrails and the trail fits the description. There are a couple of mild inclines but the trail itself is flat mostly smooth and wide. There is one small stream crossing but other than that there are no other scenic views or things to see. It is, however, a really pleasant walk in the woods and if you have an older dog like I do it should be the perfect outing.

We ventured out in the morning around 9:30 am and it took us about 1.5 hours to complete. The trail is open to hikers, horses, and mountain biking. But, no motorized ATVs or motorcycles are allowed. Dogs are allowed and are supposed to be on a leash. Godfrey and I shamelessly break that rule on a regular basis.

The trail is easy to follow as long as you’re paying attention. There are a couple of turns that are marked but hard to see right off the bat. I ended up missing a few. But I got back on track very quickly. The trail is a combination of trail and forest service road. You won’t spend too much time on the road. Most of the hike is on a small trail in the woods.

There is limited parking. I parked across the road from the trailhead that was in front of another trail/forest service road. There were probably spots for two more cars. The last mile or so is a dirt road but easily passable by any normal car. All in all the weather was great and we had a great time getting back out in the fresh air!

Some of my hike was cutoff due to my phone losing its GPS signal. My actual moving time was probably closer to 1:30:00.
